About Neva DSP
We model classic studio hardware and publish how we measured it.
Where the sound comes from
Every studio has a piece of gear that everyone reaches for. A compressor with a needle that kicks just right, a preamp that makes a dull vocal sit up, a box that turns a good drum take into the record. Engineers keep that gear for decades, repair it, argue over which revision sounds best, and plan sessions around it.
Neva DSP brings that kind of gear into the box by modelling the behaviour that made it worth keeping: how it grabs a transient, how it colours the low mids when you push it, how it recovers between hits.
Warmth is a set of details
"Analog warmth" gets used so often it has almost stopped meaning anything. For us it means specific things we can measure and hear. A rise in second harmonic as the input climbs. A transformer that softens the very low end. Attack and release that move with the programme instead of following a fixed curve. Small differences from one unit to the next.
We model those details one at a time, check each against measurements, and only keep what you can hear in a mix.
How we work
A Neva plug-in starts as a study of the circuit and its history. Classic hardware changed over its production run, so we model the revisions separately rather than averaging them into one sound. PINCH-76 carries four of them, from the raw early run to the smooth AE.
Then comes the bench. We put every revision through the same tests: frequency response, harmonic distortion at each input level, attack and release timing, gain reduction curves. The results are published in the manual, so you can see what you are buying.
Last comes the part no graph can do. The plug-in goes on real sessions, drums, bass, vocals and full mixes, until it reacts the way an engineer expects the hardware to react.
What you can expect from us
- Fair licensing. One licence runs on up to three of your computers. No subscription, no dongle.
- Free updates. Every 1.x update of PINCH-76 is free.
- A real manual. A complete guide written for working engineers, with proven starting points and bench charts, updated with every release.
- Real support. Write to us and a person who knows the plug-in replies, within two working days.
- Try before you buy. Every plug-in runs for 14 days with nothing locked.
The name
Neva DSP signs every product it makes. When you see "by Neva DSP" on a faceplate, it means the circuit was studied, measured and listened to before it reached you.
